Maddalena Lake - Argentera
The Stura of Demonte Valley has always been an easy way of communication with the neighboring France through the Maddalena Pass, located at 1.996 m.
Located in the Maritime Alps, it is marked by the course of the Stura river which flows from the small Maddalena Lake.
This is a basin of natural origin that is located just before the border with France and is part of the municipality of Argentera.
Despite the presence of several lakes in the surroundings, this has the particularity of being close to the highway and, therefore, easily visible and accessible.
Even if its position isn't so isolated, this thing doesn't penalize it in attractiveness.
Surrounded by green meadows at the foot of low mountains, Maddalena Lake is a good destination for a Sunday picnic and for a stop after an excursion to the surrounding mountains.
In winter, when its surface is frozen or snowy, it offers an exceptional spectacle.
This area is part of the Maritime Alps Natural Park and has several habitats of naturistic importance, unfortunately under risk of conservation due to excessive trampling of the banks by tourists and interventions on the bottom and along the shores of the lake.
