Saint Martino Chapel in Gorzegno
Next to the ruins of the ancient Gorzegno Castle, not far from the entrance to the town, stands the small Saint Martino Chapel.
Built in 1587 and recently restored, this church was once part of a complex of buildings annexed to the castle.
The Saint Martino Chapel is made of local sandstone and has simple lines whose the only decorations are the contrasting edges and the door frame.
At the top of the facade a written plaque recalls the motives of its construction by the De Carretto family, while the inscription "Soli Deo Opt Max Honor et Gloria" is shown on the architrave of the door.
Its main feature, that distinguishes it from the other chapels in the Alta Langa, is the unusual Greek cross layout.
The frescoes that adorned the interior are unfortunately faded by the passage of time and neglect.
