Ethnographic Museum and Mule Museum La Batajera in Prunetto
The village of Prunetto is famous above all for the monumental complex formed by the Scarampi del Carretto Castle of Pruney and the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Carmine located on the top of the hill overlooking the town.
Part of this complex is also the building called La Batajera .
National monument, this building is a square-plan sandstone porch with two arched openings.
Originally it represented the gateway to the castle.
Since 2020 it has been the headquarters of the La Batajera Ethnographic Museum .
In its rooms on the lower floor there is the Ethnographic Museum focused on viticulture, cereal growing and cattle breeding. Obviously, there is no shortage of tools from the daily peasant life, but also arrangements for the workshops of cobblers, carpenters and knife sharpeners: typical works of the agricultural world.
On the upper floor, however, there is an unusual Mule Museum .
Unique in Italy, it preserves objects in use by the Alpini who exploited donkeys for military purposes.
On display there are protective hoods, snowshoes, saddles and bases for the transport of weapons and materials, tools for shearing, shoeing, foraging and watering.
