Situato in posizione predominante su una collina circondata interamente da vigneti il Castello di Grinzane Cavour è un massiccio edificio a pianta trapezoidale in mattoni rossi con un alto mastio.
La Chiesa di San Domenico ad Alba è un antico edificio religioso situato nel centro storico della città .
La sua costruzione è risalente al XIV, voluta per mano dell'ordine dei Frati Domenicani.
Realizzata in stile romano-gotico, ha un interno a tre navate le cui volte, volte a crociera costolonate, sono sorrette da inconsuete colonne cilindriche decorate con motivi a scacchi.
Alcuni affreschi risalenti al Quattrocento probabilmente appartenenti alla scuola di Macrino d’Alba sono ancora parzialmente visibili.
La chiesa, tutt'ora consacrata, dopo una grande opera di restauro iniziata nel 1975 è utilizzata come sede per concerti, mostre ed eventi culturali.
Inside St. Domenico Church - Alba
The Church of San Domenico in Alba is an ancient religious building located in the center of the city.
Its construction is dated back to the XIV and was wanted by the order of Dominican Friars.
Made in Romanesque-Gothic style, its interior has three naves with ribbed cross vaults supported by cylindrical columns decorated with unusual chess motives.
Some frescoes dating back to the fifteenth century, probably belonging to the school of Macrino d'Alba, are still partially visible.
The church, still consecrated, after a great work of restoration began in 1975 is used as a venue for concerts, exhibitions and cultural events.
I Laghi della Sella sono tra i più grandi laghi naturali alpini della Valle Gesso.
Il Lago sottano della Sella, che occupa la vasta conca di fronte al Rifugio Dante Livio Bianco, ha una superficie di circa 107 mq ed una profondità di 15 metri.
Ha forma rotonda ed è circondato da prati e da rocce montonate alle cui spalle s'innalzano le cime del Monte Matto, della Rocca della Paur e della Gorgia Cagna.
La sua origine è glaciale ed è quel che rimane del ghiacciaio che un tempo ricopriva le pareti del Monte Matto.
Si dice che questo lago fosse il preferito dalla famiglia reale Savoia che qui veniva a pescare la trota.
La Regina Margherita amava farsi trasportare in barca su questo lago ed un remo usato per spingere la sua imbarcazione è conservato all'interno del Rifugio.
Il Lago Soprano della Sella si trova più in alto, ad un'ora e mezzo di cammino dal primo, risalendo il Vallone della Meris in direzione del Colle della Valletta.
La sua forma allungata occupa una conca di origine glaciale sostenuta da una grande bastionata di rocce rossastre.
Nelle sue acque si stagliano imponenti i profili del Monte Matto e della Rocca della Paur.
Sella's lakes - Gesso Valley
The Sella's Lakes are among the largest natural alpine lakes in the Gesso Valley.
The Sella Lower lake, which occupies the vast basin in front of the Refuge Dante Livio Bianco, has an area of about 107 square meters and a depth of 15 meters.
It has a round shape and is surrounded by meadows and glaciated knobs, behind which rise the peaks of Mount Matto, the Rocca Paur and Gorgia Cagna.
Its origin is glacial and is what remains of the glacier that once covered the walls of Mount Matto.
It is said that this lake was the favorite of the Savoia royal family, who came here to fish for trout.
Queen Margherita loved to be transported by boat on the lake and the paddle used to push his boat is already stored inside the refuge.
The Sella Upper lake is located higher. To reach it is needing to walk an hour and a half of from the first lake along the Valley of Meris in the direction of the Colle della Valletta.
Its elongated shape occupies a basin of glacial origin sustained by a great bastion of red rocks.
In its waters stand up the mountaintop profiles of the Mount Matto and the Rocca Paur.
Il Rifugio Dante Livio Bianco si trova a 1910 metri sul livello del mare all'interno del Vallone della Meris, in Valle Gesso.
Questo rifugio alpino, di proprietà del Cai di Cuneo, si affaccia sul bel lago Sottano della Sella ove si specchia il profilo del Monte Matto.v La zona, ricca di fauna e flora, è quella che un tempo faceva parte della Riserva Reale di Caccia ora trasformata nel Parco Naturale delle Alpi Marittime.
La struttura piuttosto semplice realizzata in pietra risale al 1963 ed è stata dedicata al partigiano ed alpinista Dante Livio Bianco.
Ospita un bar-ristorante ed ha posti letto in camerate per una cinquantina di persone.
La relativa facilità con cui è possibile raggiungerlo, attraverso un'escursione di circa due ore e mezza, lo rende una meta molto frequentata nel periodo estivo.
La stagione migliore per la visita è la primavera quando non è difficile incontrare lungo il sentiero branchi di camosci.
Refuge Dante Livio Bianco
The Refuge Livio Dante White is located at 1910 meters above sea level in the Valley of the Meris (Gesso Valley).
This mountain lodge, owned by Cai Cuneo, is overlooking the beautiful lake Sella Sottano where is reflected the profile of the Mount Matto.
The area, rich of fauna and flora, once was part of the Savoia Royal Hunting Reserve and now is part of the Natural Park of the Maritime Alps.
The rather simple structure made of stone is dated 1963 and has been dedicated to the partisan and mountaineer Dante Livio Bianco.
In it there's a bar-restaurant and beds in dormitories for about fifty people.
The relative ease with which people can reach it through a hike that takes about two hours and a half, make it a popular destination during the summer.
The best season to visit it is the spring when it's not so unusual to meet along the trail herds of chamois.
Il Colle della Maddalena è uno dei passi cuneesi che mettono in comunicazione la Provincia Granda con la Francia e segna il confine tra la Valle Stura e la Val d'Ubaye.
Si trova a 1996 metri di altitudine ed il suo territorio, compreso tra il Parco delle Alpi Marittime e quello del Mercantour, è caratterizzato da una vasta conca prativa dove è presente anche un piccolo lago.
Nei pressi del colle si può ammirare una stele dedicata al campione del ciclismo Fausto Coppi in ricordo di una sua mitica fuga compiuta durante il Giro d'Italia del 1949.
Recentemente la zona di confine è interessata da un'opera di riqualificazione che coinvolge le due comunità transfrontaliere e che ha portato, tra l'altro, all’installazione di un’opera d’arte realizzata dall’artista francese David Renaud.
Colle della Maddalena in Argentera
The Colle della Maddalena is one of the passages that connect the Granda Province with France and marks the border between the Valle Stura and the Val d'Ubaye.
It is located at 1996 meters and its territory, placed between the Maritime Alps Park and the Mercantour Park, is characterized by a wide open basin where there is also a small lake.
Near the pass you can admire a stele dedicated to the cycling champion Fausto Coppi in memory of his legendary escape accomplished during the 1949 Tour of Italy.
Recently, the frontier area is interested by a work of regeneration that involves the two cross-border communities, which led, among other things, the installation of an artwork by the French artist David Renaud.
