The Castle of Monticello
The Castle of Monticello Alba is one of the best preserved medieval manor houses in Langa.
Its excellent condition is due primarily to the fact that belongs to the family of the Counts Roero of Monticello for centuries.
Built on a hill is provided externally with the features of a fortress, which in the past was surrounded by a moat and now is crowned by a beautiful garden.
Its brick facade is flanked by two towers, one round and one square. The upper part has a line where it runs the Ghibelline battlements.
The interiors are typical of a nobleman's house in the countryside and are characterized by eighteenth-century decorations.
The stone staircase leads to the ground floor, to the Gun Room, where are exhibited ancient armor, and to the nearby chapel dedicated to Santa Barbara.
On the second floor there are the interesting gallery with portraits of the ancestors and the billiard room where you can admire two silk tapestries with images of Crusaders.
Important and wide is the castle library.
The battlements are still perfectly viable, while the courtyard is the best place to capture the look of the fourteenth century castle, thanks to its arched windows and the octagonal tower.
The Castle of Monticello, although occupied by the owners, can be visited and is part of the circuit "Castelli Aperti".
