Tulips at court in Govone
Every year in spring, at the Govone Castle, there is a spectacular botanical event: the flowering of thousands of red tulips that grow wild in the park around the castle.
This is the spontaneous variety Tulipa oculus solis praecox Ten, a species that arrived from the East now in danger of extinction and therefore protected by a regional law, which has found its natural habitat in the historic English park of the castle.
To celebrate this event which also represents the arrival of spring, between the end of March and the beginning of April, on the occasion of the flowering which lasts about ten days, is organized a celebration, called Tulips at court with handicrafts expo, musical moments, shows for children and guided visits into the castle.
This is also an opportunity to recall the splendor of the nineteenth century, when the Govone Castle was the summer residence of King Carlo Felice of Savoy and Queen Maria Cristina of Bourbon, location of royal banquet that saw the participation of illustrious characters.
